Course Description:
The COVID‐19 pandemic exposed the inability of buildings to mitigate the transmission of airborne diseases in the
interest of occupant health safety. With the emergence of new variants, pre‐symptomatic occupants infecting other
occupants, and the realization that other novel airborne pathogens are sure to follow, how might we solve the
present indoor air crisis and prepare for what comes next?
This course explores the effectiveness of various building system upgrades toward
achieving recommended targets
for mitigating the transmission of airborne pathogens, explains why experts consider UVGI the essential
engineering intervention for combating the spread of disease indoors, and details the benefits of integrating
UVGI into architectural lighting systems. Attendees will be able to use this knowledge to make informed decisions as to the most cost-effective building upgrades for creating healthy spaces.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe how UVGI installations safely disinfect air in occupied interior spaces
- Use air changes per hour (ACH) and equivalent air changes per hour (eqACH) to evaluate and
compare the performance of UVGI and other air cleaning solutions - Know which building upgrades are most cost‐effective for mitigating airborne disease
transmission - Select the best air disinfection solution based on value and application limitations
